Mystery shrouds over the death of NIT Patna student

PATNA: Mystery shrouds over the death of a third year student of NIT Patna, as he was found unconscious with both wrists slit on September 19 night on Bhootnath Road under Agamkuan police station area. The student identified as Akash Ranjan, 19 of Mechanical engineer on Monday succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital. Police suspect it as a murder case.
Police have lodged an FIR on the basis of the statement of Akash’s younger brother Ashish Ranjan.Ashsih in his FIR wrote that he stays on rent at Munna Chak, Rajesndranagar whee Akash went to meet him around 5pm on Saturday. Akash appeared to be disturbed and did not talk much. Akash stays on rent near the NIT campus. He fell asleep and around 9.30pm he got a call in his mobile phone and told Ashish that he has to go to birthday party of Neelkamal, who is also a third year student of Electrical engineering of NIT. “I called Akash around 10.30pm and he told me that he reached Neelkamal’s place.
Neelkamal also stays on rent near Mahendru. But around 11pm someone called from Akash’s number and informed me that they were policemen and they found Akash lying on road unconscious. I along with a cousin immediately rushed to the Bhootnath Road graveyard where Akash was found by police. We rushed him to a nearby private nursing home from where he was referred to Paras hospital. Akash told the police that Neelkamal gave him a drink in the birthday party which was perhaps poison and then a girl and a boy slit his wrists to kill him,” said Ashish.
Akash’s father, Sunil Kumar, a farmer from Gaurichak was informed after Akash was shifted to Paras hospital. Police have seized Akash’s mobile phone from which they got to know that Akash was talking to a girl from Buxar for last couple of days. However his batchmates told that Akash was a very shy and calm boy and hardly ever indulged in any fight with anybody.
“It is unlikely for a person to cut both the wrist on his own. We waiting for the postmortem report to assert the actual reason of his death. However following Akash’s statement and the FIR, police are looking for Neelkamal for more details,” said Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj.
